Nursys verification is required for all states of previous licensure. Background checks use Live Scan for NC residents and fingerprint cards for out-of-state residents.
A temporary license (valid for 6 months) is included in the $150 fee. It is issued once the board receives a complete application and criminal background check fingerprints.
Processing time is dependent on the return of the criminal background check. The board recommends applying at least 8 weeks before your start date.
30 hours required every 2 years
Requires 30 contact hours of CE or one of several other competency options (e.g., national certification).
The Nurse Portal is the primary method for tracking application status; updates are posted there in real-time.
