Endorsement Fee: $150

Applicants must pass the Nursing Jurisprudence Examination before a permanent license is issued. Texas is a compact state; nurses with a multistate license from another NLC state do not need to apply for a Texas license unless moving their permanent residency.

Jurisprudence Exam Details

Online exam covering the TX Nursing Practice Act. Fee is approximately $25. Must pass with 75% or higher.

Temporary License Information

Temporary permits are valid for 120 days and are included in the endorsement application fee. They are issued once once and cannot be extended.

Processing Time Notes

Temp permits are typically issued within 10-15 business days once all items except license verification and fingerprint results are received.

Continuing Education

20 hours required every 2 years

20 contact hours in the area of practice. Specific topics like Tick-Borne Diseases or Geriatrics may be required depending on practice area.

Additional Information

License expires in the nurse's birth month every 2 years.
